What would you do if you see a turtle walking down the street?

There was a turtle walking down my street, and so we stopped and picked it up.... it was a red eared slider..... not native in my state. sooo, we put in my bath tub, and gave it some food, under the orders of my friend's mom (she is an awesome vet) thanks Dr. Maker....
I'd put up signs at the local pet shop, animal shelter, and in the neighborhood asking if anyone lost it. If no one responds after about a week, I'd put up signs in the pet shop offering it free to a good home.
If you want to make it a pet, you can get good info here:
u did the right thing ali.....my mom wants to know too if he ate???

i would try and run it overanswers
That's so cool, I saw one before but I was afraid to touch it. I was always told that they carry diseasesanswers
If it's one not native to your state then someone put it out, OR it is migrating in to your state. You should notify the fish and wildlife department of your state! They may ask you for the turtle so be prepared to turn it over to them (they will take good care of it).answers
I would do the same thing i pick up all kinds of animals and bugsanswers
I would have done the same thing as you did. Give yourself a pat on the back for removing what was probably someones pet from your local ecosystem where it didn't belong as well.answers
That is not uncommon where I live. I see turtles all the time so I just leave them alone.answers
Watch it walk to whatever it was doing... probably follow it for a while, if I had nothing else to do.answers
I would put up found signs for about a week if someone wants him back they will look but if you just want to keep him if you think you can take care of him sounds like ur doing a good job congrats on picking him up he might have been hit hope you enjoy him turtles can be pretty awesome pets but please dont paint him that is cruelanswers
I would add it to the 3 sliders I already have, one I have had for 27 years.answers
was there a nearby source of water? if so take it back it could have a family take it from me i have 7 red ear slidersanswers
im guessing there isn't much of a water source in the desert, but that's my opinion, i would have kept it and tooken care of it like you did, good job!answers
Non-native turtles can be a nuisance. In this case, if there is a city lake or pond nearby, it may have a colony of these- these popular pets ahve been released all around the US and have established breeding colonies in many places.I'd put up signs at the local pet shop, animal shelter, and in the neighborhood asking if anyone lost it. If no one responds after about a week, I'd put up signs in the pet shop offering it free to a good home.

i would bring it indoors also. the turtle wouldn't last very long in an arid environment. i suppose i would also try to find the owner.answers
I live in Oklahoma and red eared sliders are everywhere! Yeah they do need water and no desert is not even close to their natural habitat. Simply look on the internet for some great information on them. they're easy to care for, but yes like someone said you may want to contact the wildlife department and let them find somewhere good for it to be.
I have a 10
