Spider looking critters?

[ 2008/05/09 12:29 | by admin ]
When checking our cat today, we noticed things that can only be described at spiders crawling around under the cats furr, they are bigger than fleas, and have lots of visible legs! she has been 'Frontlined' but they are obviously immune to this! Any ideas people, before we have to take out a small bankloan to take her to the vets?  we are pretty desperate!

Ticks? Here's a pic of one, to help you compare.

There is no such thing as being "immune" to flees and ticks, even with flee colors and chemicals such as frontline. They could be just that, some type of louse. Id suggest instead of a vet, taking it to a groomer and having it dipped. It will cost less than a vet trip most likely.

Crab lice maybe?

I'd take the advice of the earlier poster and take the cat to a pet groomer to get a flea dip bath.  I would think that the treatment would kill lice, as well as fleas.

The thing about lice, though, is that they lay eggs which hatch in about a week.  So a repeat treatment in 5-7 days is usually necessary. Also, you may have to treat your carpet and furniture with a spray, if it turns out to be lice.

Best wishes!

Give the cat a bath. sometimes vet can give medication to put on the cat that will take care of that situation, but I would hurry, these blood sucking things will cause anemia and serious skin conditions. They spread quite rapisly as well. just take her to the vet, it won't cost alot.  Good luck.

possilby ticks. I would take one of them to your vet and have it positively identified
