I have built a couple of friendships with some of the girls who volunteer at the shelter I got my three cats from, and I occasionally stop in to say hi on adoption nights. I adopted my cats within the past 8-10 weeks, and two of my cats are very friendly (they are mama and kitten). The mama and kitten were foster cats of one of the volunteers before I adopted them. Tonight is adoption night at the shelter and I wanted to bring them along, just to say hi to the girls and to let them see how big the kitten has gotten- she is 5 months old and nearly as big as her mama. I was just wondering if this was a good idea? Would any of you ever think of doing this?

I adopted my gorgeous Labrador x, Max, from a shelter about 9 months ago. Now he is settled and secure here with me I am going to visit the shelter with him to show the owner what a fantastic dog he is and how he has changed from a growling man-hater to a family softie. The owner will be delighted to see him, he will get lots of fuss and I'm sure that as I will be with him throughout the visit he will be reassured that he isn't going back there to live... wild horses wouldn't separate us!!!

I hope this helps you with your decision.

A lot of people do that. That how most shelters get their success stories.

While it might seem like a good idea in principle, I don't think that I would.  First of all, your cats might not want to go somewhere so soon after getting settled.  You may also be exposing them to airborne viruses, such as those that cause upper respiratory infections.  Also, they may not really want to be around all those other animals, even in a carrier.  It could really stress them out. I would suggest taking a couple pictures, or better yet, some digital video, to show the volunteers.  That way, the cats are safe, and the volunteers get to see them relaxed and in their own environment, to show how well you are caring for them!

BTW, thank you for adopting cats. There are so many great cats that need homes, and everyone who adopts them is a hero in my book!

Yea, thats okay to do. Im thirteen and I volunteer at "one by one" cat shelter (1by1catrescue.org) I go on Mondays and Wendsdays, So I often see cats leaving to be fostered or even coming back incase something didnt work out with them. At PetSmart we hold this adoption thing too, and right now alot of cats from the shelter are staying at PetSmart to await adoption. Anywayz- therez been several times ppl from the past showd' up with old cats from before, like this one time recently this lady came to the shelter to drop off a cat that she found and couldnt keep, and brought over Olivia- a cat I found at my house- to show us how shes' doing. She was ALOT fatter! So it was real cool, Kay and Joan the other volunteers (I ride with Joan ther, since shes my neighbor) thought it was neat to see the cat again. Plus therz been other times, and I think its real neat! I hope you hav fun, and ya bring that Kat...haha.
SeeYa!!!

I think it's a great idea. I got my dog from a shelter and wouldnt think of buying one. Though the shelter was from outer state and they came to my Big City with a caravan.
