Does oscars need cold watter or hot water tanks?

About 78 degrees farenheit is good.they need warm water, so you will need to buy a heater from the pet store.
i love oscars, you can even get them to feed from your hand, they will jump up out of the water a little way and grab the food from your fingers, it takes some time but its so cool. and they liked to be patted like a cat or dog, put ur hand in the water and they will get used to you and then eventually they will swim up for a pat.....They like the water to be between 68 and 72 degrees.  They like to hide, so lots of plants (live or fake) and rocks are great.  They will re-decorate your tank, so don't be upset when they begin uprooting your plants and moving the small rocks around.  Mine have always dug holes and it's actually pretty neat to watch.  don't forget to water change 2/3 of your water about every 6 weeks and to change your filters once a month.  Live plants help with the nitrate in the water as does activated charcoal.  Have fun with your oscars!  I had 2 years ago that grew to be 10 inches long.  Very cool to watch!Oscars are beautiful fish, they need - warm water.
